NON-IMMIGRANT VISAS

If you are planning to enter the United States temporarily — for tourism, business, medical treatment, study, or certain categories of temporary work — you will generally need a nonimmigrant visa. Nonimmigrant visas are issued to foreign nationals seeking authorized, time-limited entry into the United States for a specific purpose.

The correct visa category depends on the purpose of your travel and the requirements established under U.S. immigration law. Many travelers can apply directly at a U.S. consulate or embassy abroad for a visitor visa for business (B-1) or tourism (B-2). Other categories — including student, exchange visitor, and employment-based nonimmigrant visas — typically require prior authorization, a sponsoring institution or employer, and supporting documentation before the consular interview.

The U.S. Department of State publishes a complete list of nonimmigrant visa classifications and their requirements, and we routinely advise clients across the full range — from short-term business visitors and tourists, to students, exchange visitors, intracompany transferees, professionals in specialty occupations, individuals of extraordinary ability, and treaty traders and investors.

Selecting the right category, building a credible record of nonimmigrant intent, and anticipating the issues most likely to arise at the consulate are where experienced counsel makes the difference. Whether you are applying for the first time, returning after a prior refusal, or navigating a complex case, we provide tailored, attorney-led representation at every stage.
